SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): A leading bulky mixed rigids processor Re-Poly LLC has auctioned off its St.Louis facility. The highly innovative post-consumer plastic recycling facility was sold to GP-Plastics Holdings LLC, a subsidiary of Granite Peak Development in an auction. The facility is now called Granite Peak Plastics.
The facility was part of QRS Recycling family of companies and was the last remaining QRS operation. QRS, which started with the St.Louis plant, witnessed rapid expansion with the opening of a new Atalanta division to sort mixed plastics. In addition, the joint venture with Canusa Hershman Recycling boosted separation of materials out of plastic bales in the Baltimore area.

However, the shift in markets halted the expansion drive. It had to shutter the Atlanta facility and liquidate its assets in 2016, owing to drastic decline in PET pricing. In 2017, the Baltimore facility too suspended its operations, citing the need for major upgrade to its equipment. The facility did not reopen. A year later, it sold the Louisville, Ky material recycling facility.
The expansions at the Re-Poly site related to modern plastic sortation initiatives led to huge debt for the company. Finally, Re-Poly entered into a Missouri state Receivership and put up the assets for auction.
