SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The London-based leading chemicals company Ineos has partnered with recycling major Plastic Energy to build advanced plastic recycling facility that will convert plastic scrap into high quality polymers that will be used to manufacture new plastics. The plant is expected to become operational by end-2023.
The facility will make use of Plastic Energy’s patented technology called Thermal Anaerobic Conversion (TAC), which will transform previously unrecyclable plastic waste into basic molecules. The process ultimately generates a product called TACoil. This recycled raw material will be fed to Ineos sites, where they will be used as raw material for producing premium plastic products.
The first trials of the product from the innovative recycling process have already been completed. The plastics made from this trial will now be distributed for use to selected customers and brands. The location for the proposed recycling centre near existing sites will be determined soon.
Rob Ingram CEO INEOS Olefins & Polymers Europe noted that the development is an important milestone in its sustainability journey. Also, Carlos Monreal, Founder and CEO of Plastic Energy said that the innovation is in response to the growing demand for high quality recycled content and that it will boost the move towards a circular future for plastics.
