SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Erie-based International Recycling Group (IRG) plans to build a new plastic recycling plant at the former International Paper (IP) site on the south side of East Lake Road in Erie.
The Erie-based IRG has entered into an agreement with Erie Management Group towards purchase of 25 acres of property, currently known as SB3 Industrial Park. The sale of the property is likely to be finalized in a few months. The company declined to disclose the sale price.
IRG plans to construct a new 200,000-square feet plastics recycling facility at an investment of nearly $100 million. The most technologically advanced plant in the world will have an initial processing capacity of 275,000 tons per year. Initially, it will provide employment to nearly 50 people. The plant is expected to begin operations in early-2023, said the company press release.

Commenting on the deal, Mitch Hecht, Founder, IRG said that the company is thrilled to purchase the environmentally clean and beautiful site. The direct access to the bayfront and the rail spur facility will provide significant logistics benefits. The site is far enough from lakefront, thus making it ideal for industrial production without leading to any potential environmental issue in future, he added.
