SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Georgia-Pacific announced plans to expand its operations in Clarendon County, South Carolina. The expansion project will be carried out at an investment of approximately $40 million. The proposed expansion is expected to be completed in 2023.

The expansion comprises addition of a third strander machine to process wood logs into strands used in manufacturing oriented stranded boards (OSBs). The new strander will boost the throughput of the facility significantly.
The company has been on an investment spree. Its subsidiary, GP Cellulose, had recently announced investment of approximately $80 million towards addition of fluff capacity at its GP Cellulose Alabama River mill near Monroeville, Alabama, which upon completion is expected to add the mill’s ability to produce fluff pulp.
Also, it had announced significant upgrade of its corrugated plant in Bradford, Pennsylvania at an investment of $34 million, which comprises installation of a new equipment to modernize the plant’s operations.
Earlier in May this year, the company had announced investments of more than $50 million during the next three years at its Muskogee mill to improve the safety, reliability and efficiency of operations
