In addition, it will also contribute to long-term improvements in local communities and the broader environment, he added.

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster):  To support initiatives to efficiently manage plastic waste in Asian nations, the Coca-Cola Foundation (TCCF) has teamed up with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).

Up to nine Asian nations—Bangladesh, Bhutan, Cambodia, India, Maldives, Nepal, the Philippines, Sri Lanka, and Vietnam—will see an increase in plastic waste management efforts thanks to the $15 million grant from TCCF to assist UNDP's programs. First introduced in India, the three-year multi-country program will soon be extended to other nations.

In partnership with regional players, the project seeks to increase recycling, decrease plastic leakage into the environment, and implement national-based plastic waste management solutions. The UNDP aims to limit the use of throwaway plastics at the community level and compel the government to create policies that would help them in their endeavors.

Technical assistance on environmental best practices will be provided, and the initiative will concentrate on creating creative business models for recycling and waste collection.

The Coca-Cola Foundation's president, Carlos Pagoaga, stated that the partnership with UNDP will contribute to a more efficient approach to the problem of plastic waste. Furthermore, he said, it will help to enhance the environment and local communities over the long run.
