Coca-Cola and PepsiCo Sued for Misleading Public on Impacts of Plastic Pollution and Product Recyclability

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Coca-Cola and PepsiCo were sued by Los Angeles County, which claimed that the corporations had misled the public about the environmental effects of plastic pollution and the recyclability of their products. The businesses broke the laws against deceptive advertising and unfair competition.

According to the lawsuit, PepsiCo and Coca-Cola were both found to have purposefully misled the public about the recyclable nature of plastic beverage containers. Additionally, it claimed that the businesses were fully aware that recycling or discarding the plastic beverage containers would have an adverse effect on the environment.

Lindsey Horvath, the chair of the Los Angeles County Board, stated that the County is dedicated to minimizing plastic usage and safeguarding the environment. He called on PepsiCo and Coca-Cola to quit lying and accept accountability for the plastic waste that their goods are causing. Horvath stated that the County will keep addressing the detrimental effects that businesses' deceptive and unfair business practices have on the environment.

According to the County's lawsuit, PepsiCo and Coca-Cola's circularity assertions are misleading to customers.
Coca-Cola and PepsiCo, incidentally, are two of the biggest pollutants in the world, creating over 3.244 million metric tons and 2.5 million metric tons of plastic annually, respectively.
