SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The ALPLA Group has announced opening of its first PET recycling plant in Romania. The plant was set up in partnership with Ecohelp SRL (Romania) and United Polymer Trading AG, Switzerland (UPT) at an investment of around 7.5 million euros. The plant, which has an annual capacity of around 18,000 tonnes of rPET, has created around 20 new jobs in the region.
The plant is located at a site adjacent to the existing Ecohelp site in Targu Mures. The first extrusion line, which produces high-quality rPET granulate from PET flakes, has commenced operations. Currently, it produces nearly 18,000 tonnes of recycled material per year from household waste. The food-grade rPET granulate produced by the plant will be used as material for manufacturing new preforms and bottles.
An official opening ceremony will be held at the site on 4th May, 2023, said the company press release.
Mihail Moloiu, General Manager at PET Recycling Team Targu Mures said that the collaboration demonstrates how to improve local recycling and ensure sustainable economic development. The plant will help to fill the gap for high-quality recycled material in Romanian market and markets in neighbouring countries, he added.
