SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Erie, Pennsylvania-headquartered International Recycling Group (IRG) announced that it has finalized purchase of the former Hammermill Paper site at 1565 E. Lake Rd. from SB3 LLC. The purchase deal covers 25.48 acres of land for $1.23 million.
According to Mitch Hecht, Chairman and Founder, IRG, the company will now move forward on negotiations for putting its finance package together. The project is likely to witness an investment of approximately $185 million, which in turn will create around 300 jobs. The proposed 350,000-square-foot building will house all inventory management under a single roof.
The construction of the building will begin on Q1 next year. The facility is expected to become operational by second half of 2024.
The company intends to construct a plastics recovery facility, which will accept various forms of post use plastics including cups, lids, tubs and other single-use plastic items. It will purchase HDPE, PET and PPE bales, in addition to Nos. 3-7 bales, mainly from material recovery facilities. The facility will be capable of producing nearly 10,000 tons per month of recycled PET, HDPE and PP pellets and flakes, Hecht noted.
