SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The U.S. weekly raw steel output recorded marginal increase by 0.10% during the week ending on March 5, 2022, when matched with the comparable week in 2021. This is in accordance with the latest weekly domestic production statistics released by the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI).

The U.S. weekly domestic raw steel output totalled 1.762 million net tons (NT). The domestic mill capability utilization rate was 80.0%. It must be noted that the production had totalled 1.760 million NT at a much lower capacity utilization rate of 77.7% during the corresponding week a year before. Meantime, the weekly crude steel production recorded marginal increase by 0.40% over the week. The production was 1.755 million NT at a capability utilization rate of 79.7% during the week ended February 26, 2022.
The cumulative adjusted year-to-date U.S. raw steel production totalled 16.324 million NT through the week ending on March 5, 2022. This is up by 2.6% from the production which totalled 15.913 million NT during the same period in 2021. The capability utilization rate too recorded notable surge from 76.8% to 81.1% over the year.
The leading producer was the Southern region, with an output of 743,000 net tons. The production by Great Lakes region stood at 608,000 net tons during the week. The production by other regions (in thousand net tons) is as follows: North East-166, Midwest-176 and Western-69.
