Liberty Steel’s transformative journey to reshape the safety culture across the organisation won them the award.

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The World Steel Association (worldsteel) has recognized six member companies for their excellence in health and safety standards. The awards are in recognition of the commitment and effort of our members towards the wellbeing of their workforce and contractor community, said Andrew Purvis, Director, Sustainable Manufacturing at worldsteel.

The two companies recognized for safety culture and leadership are BlueScope Steel Limited and Liberty Steel. The former has been recognized for its efforts towards integrating Human and Organisational Performance (HOP) into foundational HSE processes. Liberty Steel’s transformative journey to reshape the safety culture across the organisation won them the award.

Acerinox S.A (innovative roll cover solution enhances safety and operational efficiency in hot mill operations) and JFE Steel Corporation (Safe work support using safety monitoring system) were named winners for excellence in occupational safety management.

The program to evaluate the ergonomic conditions in its pipe manufacturing mills, which started in 2016 at Confab, Tenaris’ production centre in Brazil won the award for occupational health management. The process safety management award was won by Tata Steel’s real time visualization of risk movement through implementation of a Process Safety Management framework.
