SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Jindal Steel and Power Limited (JSPL) announced that it has entered into a strategic technology partnership with GIFLO Steel-Hungary to set up a rail wheelset manufacturing plant. The collaboration for the project was signed at the “India Hingary Business Forum” organized by the Embassy of Hungary and FICCI. This is the first such plant in India.

The plant, considered as a big step forward in rail infrastructure manufacturing, will have an initial processing capacity of 25,000 wheelsets per annum. In addition, the company will also set up a rail forging unit for asymmetric rails, used in rail track switches, especially on high-speed train tracks.

According to V.R. Sharma, Managing Director, JSPL, the new manufacturing plant will help Indian Railways to speed up the modernization of its rail infrastructure. The company will work to ensure that it meets the country’s rising demand for various grades of rails, by adhering to international quality and safety standards.

Incidentally, the Indian Railways has been facing shortage of train wheels, as the deliveries to India have been badly impacted following Russia-Ukraine war crisis.

The JSPL’s rail mill in Raigarh has been a supplier of superior grades of rails to Indian Railways as well as various Metro projects across the country.
