Commenting on the development, Naveen Jindal, Chairman, JSP noted that it is privileged that the country’s largest TMT rebar mill is being dedicated to the nation. The Coal Gasification Plant (CGP)-based DRI plant at the integrated steel complex has been set up in line with the company’s focus on sustainable steel production, he added.
The CGP, equipped with the latest carbon capture technology, will help to significantly reduce the dependence on imported coking coal. It already captures approximately 2,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide per day.
Incidentally, JSP plans to double the Angul plant capacity from 6 mtpa to 12 mtpa. It aims to achieve an overall steelmaking capacity of 15 mtpa by 2025.
