Plastipak Expanded Luxembourg PET Recycling Facility
The recycling facility converts washed rPET flakes originating from post-consumer bottles into food-grade rPET pellets.
SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Plastipak- a global leader in packaging and recycling services announced that it has completed a major investment aimed at significantly expanding its PET recycling capacity at its Bascharage, Luxembourg manufacturing site.
The expansion has increased the annual production capacity of the Luxembourg facility by nearly 136%. The facility, originally opened in 2008, took almost a year for the installation and commissioning works as part of the expansion. The expansion complements Plastipak’s existing recycling facilities in France, UK and the USA.

The recycling facility converts washed rPET flakes originating from post-consumer bottles into food-grade rPET pellets. The rPET produced at the site is converted into new performs and containers, which primarily serves the German and Benelux food and beverage markets, said the company release.
Pedro Martins, Executive Managing Director of Plastipak’s European division commented that latest investment to increase the capacity in rPET production actively demonstrates Plastipak’s long-term commitment to bottle-to-bottle recycling and its leadership in the PET circular economy. The majority of the post-consumer recycled material used by its European facilities is produced within Europe itself, he added.
