Soft Lead shall consist of clean soft scrap lead, free of other materials such as drosses, battery plates, lead-covered cable, hard lead, collapsible tubes, foil, type metals, aluminum, zinc, iron and brass fittings, dirty chemical lead and radioactive materials. In short, Soft Lead is lead containing virtually no impurities other than the precious metals.
As per the latest Scrap Specifications Circular 2017 released by the Institute of Scrap Recycling Industries (ISRI), Soft Lead is covered by the ISRI Code ‘Racks’.

The scrapping value of Lead scrap depends on the type and quality. Soft Lead scrap is generally free of any impurities and carries the highest price as it requires minimal refinement. This high quality lead scrap is often obtained from lead cables after stripping off their insulation jackets.
Mixed lead scrap often contains soft and hard scrap and is usually priced less than Soft Lead scrap.
In general, the Soft Lead and other Lead scrap prices may not vary much across the country. The prices usually remain stable throughout the country unlike non-ferrous scrap such as copper or brass whose prices may vary depending on location.
