SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The World Steel Association (worldsteel) announced World Champions of the 18th steelChallenge. The winner in the industry category was Wei Li Bu from HBIS, China, while Srinivasan Dhamaraj from the Indian Institute of Technology, Hyderabad, India was adjudged the winner in the student category.
The final round of the 18th steelChallenge took place on 9 April 2024 in London, UK, which saw participation by best players of the Regional Championship from the industry and student categories. The challenge was to produce wire rod at the lowest cost in a combined simulation, meeting the specified carbon footprint requirements for the steel grade, the press release noted.
The World Champions will receive cash prize of €500, World Champion certificate and a steelChallenge-18 trophy. Also, all participants who have successfully completed a simulation run will receive a competition certificate.

The dedication, creativity and passion of the participants have not only elevated the steel industry, but also inspired countless others to join in the pursuit of excellence and sustainability, he added.
