SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The World Steel Association (worldsteel) has released the list of ten topmost steel producing countries during the month of February this year.
China continued to remain as the world’s leading steel producer, with the country’s output recording modest surge by 3.5% over the previous year. The country’s crude steel output was estimated at 81.2 Mt during the month. The cumulative output during the initial two-month period of 2024 totalled 168.0 Mt, marginally higher by 1.6% over the corresponding two-month period in 2023.

India’s output, at 11.8 Mt, recorded significant surge by 11.4% over February last year. The country produced 24.5 Mt of steel during Jan-Feb ’24. This was higher by almost 10% over the previous year. The Japanese output edged higher marginally by 1.1% during the month to total 7.0 Mt, while its cumulative yearly output until February this year was up by 0.8% over the prior year to total 14.3 Mt.
The U.S. produced 6.50 Mt of steel, down by 1.2% year-on-year. Russia is estimated to have produced 5.7 Mt, modestly lower by 4.4% year-on-year. The output by other countries in the top ten list in Mt is as follows: South Korea (5.1), Germany (3.1), Turkiye (3.1), Brazil (2.8) and Iran (2.2).
Among the top ten steel producing nations, Russia recorded highest dip in steel output during the month, falling significantly by more than 4.4% year-on-year. On the contrary, Turkish output surged the most, recording a year-on-year increase by 46.6%.
