SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The world crude steel production by 71 countries reporting to the World Steel Association (worldsteel) totalled 148.8 million tonnes (Mt) in the month of February this year, modestly higher by 3.7% when compared to the same month a year before.
The largest steel producing region was the Asia and Oceania, whose output totalled 109.70 Mt during the month. The second largest producer was the EU-27 region, with an output of 10.60 Mt. In third place was the North American countries, which recorded an output of 8.70 Mt. The output (in Mt) by the other regions is as follows: Africa (1.80), Russia and other CIS+ Ukraine (6.70), Other Europe (3.70), Middle East (4.20) and South America (3.50).

The Other Europe region output surged the most, rising significantly by 32.5% from the prior year month. The Middle East region too saw notable surge in output by 10.80%. The South American output too was up by 10.50% upon comparison with February 2023. The African region recorded modest year-on-year rise in output by 8.10%. The North America and EU-27 output too was up by 5.30% and 2.70%.
The largest production decline of 3.30% was recorded by the bloc of EU-27 countries. The other regions to record year-on-year decline in crude steel production volumes were Russia and Other CIS+ Ukraine and North America, whose output declined by 2.5% and 1.3% respectively year-on-year.
