SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The World Steel Association (worldsteel) has announced winners of the 16th steelChallenge contest, which took place online on 11th April, 2022 following social distancing guidelines of health authorities around the world and on account of travel restrictions in some countries.
Qichen LI from Tangshan Vocational College of Science and Technology in China was declared winner in the Student category, whereas the winner of the Industry category was Ruibin WANG from HBIS Group in China. Altogether, five winners of the Regional Championship from the Industry and Student categories competed for the global title.

Commenting on the achievement, Qichen LI noted that steelChallenge is an incredible opportunity to meet people around the world while learning about steelmaking. The Championship was really hard and he is very happy to be recognized as the champion in the student category, he added.
Ruibin WANG said that he has really enjoyed being part of steelChallenge and gaining more knowledge about steelmaking. The competition attracts a lot of participants and he is delighted to be the industry World Champion, WANG added.
Meantime, Jorge Muract, Director, steeluniversity for worldsteel congratulated the World Champions and all of the finalists for their incredible work. steelChallenge-16 was a learning experience for thousands of students and industry professionals around the world, he said.
