SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The world crude steel production by 64 countries reporting to the World Steel Association (worldsteel) totalled 142.7 million tonnes (Mt) in the month of February this year, down modestly by 5.70% compared to the same month a year before.
The largest steel producing region was the Asia and Oceania, whose output totalled 102.60 Mt in the second month of the current year. The second largest producer was the EU-27 region, with an output of 11.70 Mt. In third place was North America, which recorded an output of 8.80 Mt. The output (in Mt) by the other regions is as follows: Africa (1.3), CIS (7.7), Other Europe (3.8), Middle East (3.5) and South America (3.3).

The African steel output surged the most, rising by 4.1% from the prior year month. The Middle East region recorded year-on-year surge in output by 2.8%. The North American output edged higher by 1.8%. The monthly output by the EU-27 and South American regions were down by 2.50% and 7.0% respectively. Other Europe too saw modest dip in output by 2.7%.
Meantime, the CIS region saw its output decline modestly by 5.80% over the previous year. Also, the Asia and Oceania region recorded notable year-on-year dip in output by 7.10%.
The topmost steel producing country was China, with an output of 75.0 Mt in February 2022. The other key steel producing countries were India (10.10 Mt) and Japan (7.30 Mt).
