SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The weekly domestic raw steel production data published by the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) signalled significant surge in output during the week ended July 3, 2021. The weekly production climbed higher significantly by 41.0% over previous year.
The raw steel output by the U.S. mills totalled 1.842 million net tons (NT) at a capability utilization rate of 83.0%. The production had totalled only 1.306 million NT at a capacity utilization rate of 58.3% during the same period a year before. Meantime, the production during the week recorded marginal increase by 0.4% when compared with the production of 1.835 million NT at a capability utilization rate of 82.7% during the prior week.

The adjusted year-to-date raw steel production totalled 46.896 million NT until the week ending July 3, 2021. The mills in the country reported capability utilization rate of 79.0% during this period. The production till date has increased by 16.0% from 40.415 million NT during the same period last year. The capability utilization rates were up from 67.7% a year before.
The mills in the Southern region accounted for approximately 42% of the total weekly raw steel production by the country. The regional output totalled 772,000 NT. The production (in thousand net tons) by the other regions was as follows: North East-144, Midwest-202, Great Lakes-648 and Western-76.
