SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The U.S. weekly raw steel output recorded notable increase by 26.9% during the week ending on August 28, 2021, when matched with the comparable week in 2020. This is in accordance with the latest weekly domestic production statistics released by the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI).
The U.S. weekly domestic raw steel output totalled 1.873 million net tons (NT). The domestic mill capability utilization rate was 84.9%. It must be noted that the production had totalled only 1.476 million NT at a much lower capacity utilization rate of 65.9% during the corresponding week in 2020. On the contrary, the weekly crude steel production dipped marginally by 0.2% over the week. The production was 1.877 million NT during the week ended August 21, 2021.

The cumulative adjusted year-to-date U.S. raw steel production totalled 62.046 million NT through the week ending on August 28, 2021. This is up by 20.0% from the production which totalled 51.719 million NT during the same period in 2020. The capability utilization rate too recorded notable jump from 66.6% to 80.5% over the year.
The leading producer was the Southern region, with an output of 811,000 net tons. The production by Great Lakes region stood at 638,000 net tons during the week. The production by other regions (in thousand net tons) is as follows: North East-152, Midwest-198 and Western-74.
