SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The weekly domestic raw steel production data published by the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) signalled significant surge in output during the week ended September 4, 2021. The weekly production climbed higher significantly by 23.5% over the previous year.
The raw steel output by the U.S. mills totalled 1.866 million net tons (NT) at a capability utilization rate of 84.5%. The production had totalled only 1.511 million NT at a capacity utilization rate of 67.4% during the same period a year before. Meantime, the production during the week recorded marginal decline by 0.4% when compared with the production of 1.873 million NT at a capability utilization rate of 84.9% during the prior week.

The adjusted year-to-date raw steel production totalled 63.904 million NT until the week ending September 4, 2021. The mills in the country reported capability utilization rate of 80.6% during this period. The production till date has increased by 20.1% from 53.230 million NT during the same period last year. The capability utilization rates too were up from 66.6% a year before.
The mills in the Southern region accounted for approximately 43% of the total weekly raw steel production by the country. The regional output totalled 771,000 NT. The production (in thousand net tons) by the other regions was as follows: North East-177, Midwest-193, Great Lakes-650 and Western-75.
