U.S. Domestic Raw Steel Output Slumped, Says AISI

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The most current weekly domestic production data released by the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) showed a little 2% decrease in U.S. weekly raw steel output for the week ending October 19, 2024. This is upon comparison with the corresponding week a year before.

The weekly net tons (NT) of domestic raw steel produced in the United States was 1.631 million. The rate of utilization of domestic mill capability was 73.4%. It is important to remember that during the same week last year, production reached 1.664 million NT at a little lower capacity utilization rate of 72.4%.

On the other hand, the weekly production of crude steel increased nominally by 0.70% from the week before. The preceding week, which ended on October 12, 2024, saw a total production of 1.620 million NT, with a 72.9% capability utilization rate.

With 686,000 net tons produced, the Southern area was the top producer. Over the course of the week, the Great Lakes region produced 581,000 net tons. North East-115, Midwest-198, and Western-51 are the other regions' productions (in thousand net tons).

Through October 19, 2024, the adjusted year-to-date output reached 71.069 million net tons, with a capability utilization rate of 76.4%. Compared to the production of 72.337 million net tons and the capacity utilization rate of 76.4% in the equivalent year-to-date period of 2023, this represents a 1.8% decrease.
