SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The World Steel in Figures 2022 published by the World Steel Association (worldsteel) lists the major importers and exporters of steel during the previous year.

The major steel exporter in 2021 was China, with total overseas shipments of 66.2 million tonnes (Mt). The other major exporters along with the exported volume in Mt are as follows: Japan (33.8), Russia (32.6), South Korea (26.8) and the EU-27 countries (26). On the other hand the largest steel importer during the year was the EU-27 countries, which received 48.1 tonnes of steel. The others in the top-five list of steel importers were the U.S. (29.7 Mt), China (27.8 Mt), Germany (23.3 Mt) and Italy (20.8 Mt).
The largest net exporter of steel during the previous year was China (38.4 Mt), followed by Japan (28.3 Mt) and Russia (27.6 Mt). The top three net steel importers were the EU-27 countries (22 Mt), the U.S. (21.4 Mt) and Thailand (13.7 Mt).
By product, hot rolled sheets and coils topped exports, with a total volume of 61.2 Mt. This was followed by ingots and semi-finished materials (61.2 Mt) and galvanized sheets (45.3 Mt). The world steel exports surged higher from 378.8 Mt in 2020 to 436.3 Mt in 2021, said the worldsteel data.
