SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The World Steel Association (worldsteel) released latest edition of ‘World Steel in Figures’, which provides details about major steel-producing companies and countries during the previous year.
Among companies, China Baowu emerged as the largest steel producer, with an output of 119.95 tonnes. In distant second spot was ArcelorMittal, which recorded annual crude steel production of 79.26 tonnes in 2021. In third place was Ansteel Group with an output totalling 55.65 tonnes. The other major steel producing companies, along with their output (in tonnes) are as follows: Nippon Steel Corporation (49.46), Shagang Group (44.23), POSCO (42.96), HBIS Group (41.64), Jianlong Group (36.71), Shougang Group (35.43) and Tata Steel Group (30.59).
The list of topmost crude steel producing countries remained unchanged in 2020 and 2021. China was the top producer, with an output of 1.033 million tonnes in 2021 and 1.065 million tonnes in 2020. The Indian crude steel production surged higher from 100.3 tonnes to 118.2 tonnes over the previous year. In third place was Japan with an output of 96.3 tonnes in 2021, higher from 83.2 tonnes produced in 2020.
The other countries to feature in the list of top ten crude steel producing countries were the U.S., Russia, South Korea, Turkey, Germany, Brazil and Iran.
