SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Hartsville, S.C.-based Sonoco has been named to Barron’s 100 Most Sustainable Companies in the United States. This is the fourth consecutive year that the company has been included in the prestigious list. Moreover, the ranking made significant stride from 91st during the previous year to 56th this year.
Commenting on the achievement, Howard Coker, President and CEO, Sonoco said that the company is honoured to be included for the fourth consecutive year on the prestigious list. The company is committed to creating sustainable products, services and programs for its customers, employees and communities that support its corporate purpose of ‘Better Packaging. Better Life’, he added.

Calvert Research and Management published the list after reviewing 230 indicators of 1,000 companies. It analyzed the 1,000 largest publicly held companies, measured by market capitalization, incorporated and headquartered in the U.S. These companies were then rated on its demonstrated responsibility in five key stakeholder categories- shareholders, employees, customers, community and planet.
Also, to be considered among the 100 Most Sustainable Companies, the company needs to be rated above the bottom quartile in all financially material stakeholder categories.
