SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Sonoco Recycling- a unit of global packaging major Sonoco announced that it has acquired Ashville, North Carolina-located recovered paper recycler, American Recycling of Western North Carolina.
The privately owned American Recycling of Western North Carolina’s Ashville material recovery facility is said to have a processing capacity of approximately 30,000 tons of recovered fiber every year. The company expects to generate around $9 million in annual sales during the current year. In addition to full service recycling plant in Ashville, the company also has sales and marketing offices in Georgia, Wisconsin and Tennessee serving domestic and international markets.

The acquired facility is strategically located at just around 65 miles from Sonoco’s Newport, TN uncoated recycled paperboard mill, thus making it a ideal deal. The acquisition will provide Sonoco’s mills with a stable, low-cost supply of recovered fiber with opportunities for significant volume growth over the years to come, said Palace Stepps, Vice President and General Manager of Sonoco Recycling Division.
Sonoco had recently reached a definitive agreement to acquire Broomfield, Colorado-based Ball Metalpack- a leading manufacturer of sustainable metal packing solutions.
