SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The introduction of Smurfit Westrock's novel paper pallet wrap is anticipated to lower supply chain emissions. Unlike the widely used polyethylene stretch wrap, this entirely paper-based substitute is 100% recyclable. By the way, the global stretch wrap market was estimated to be worth USD 4.27 billion in 2023 and is expected to develop significantly in the years to come.

A press statement from the company states that Nertop Stretch Kraft paper is used to create the innovative solution. Pallet wrap is not only recyclable, but it also absorbs a lot of energy and performs well in humid environments. Additionally, it will be crucial in lessening the negative effects of packaging on the environment. Smurfit Westrock's Nervion paper mill in Spain produces the paper-based pallet wrap.
Encirc, a well-known glass supplier in the UK, was the first to deploy the new pallet wrap, the newest addition to the company's Better Planet Packaging Portfolio. In appreciation for offering the creative new solution, Encirc named Smurfit Westrock a Sustainability Champion. The two businesses' collaboration has led to the substitution of paper for single-use plastic.
A full transition to paper wrap would result in a very noticeable decrease in emissions, according to Jemma Jones, National Account Manager at Smurfit Westrock.
