SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Smurfit Kappa- Europe’s leading corrugated packaging company announced major investment in French mill. The company will invest €24 million towards expansion of its corrugated plant in Rethel, North-East France. The investment demonstrates the company’s ongoing commitment to its customers in France.
The project will help in consolidation of the two existing facilities at the plant. It comprises installation of a new state-of-the-art corrugators and conversion equipment. The investment will result in significant improvement in the plant’s carbon footprint, saving approximately 150 tonnes per annum of carbon dioxide emissions.
The project will be implemented in two phases. In the first phase, the company plans to install the new corrugator machine, further to expansion of the plant with the addition of a new 8,200 square meter building to house the machine. This phase is expected to be completed during first half 2022. The full completion of the project is scheduled for 2023, said the company press release.
Edwin Goffard, COO of Smurfit Kappa Europe – Corrugated and Converting noted that the new investment will further support its ambition to strengthen its position in France. It will ensure the company’s growth and further improve its quality of service to the food and industrial markets.
