SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Smurfit Kappa announced construction of a new packaging plant in Morocco at an investment of more than 35 million euro. This will be the company’s first corrugated plant in the country. The construction of the plant has officially begun with the laying of foundation stone held this week. The facility is expected to be operational in early-2023.

According to company press release, the plant will be located in Rabat and will cover an area of approximately 25,000 square metre. It will enable the company to quickly and efficiently deliver innovative and sustainable packaging solutions to its local customers. The plant will serve local customers as well as multinationals with packaging solutions for multiple sectors such as industrial, agriculture, FMCG, automotive, pharmacy and ceramics. The plant will play key strategic role in a deficit market.
Saverio Mayer, CEO, Smurfit Kappa Europe noted that the company is proud to announce the construction of the advanced new facility, which is the first of its kind owned by it in Morocco. It will create around 300 direct and indirect jobs in the region, he added.
The new plant will also host an Experience Centre, aimed at ensuring enhanced collaboration with its customers and providing creative ideas and insights.
