Smurfit Kappa Launched Innovative and Sustainable Paper Solution

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Smurfit Kappa announced launch of AquaStop- an innovative and sustainable water-resistant paper. The new solution is part of the company’s TechniPaper portfolio of products.

The special coating added to it during the manufacturing process makes the AquaStop paper water-resistant. The coating is special in the sense that it does not hinder the recyclability of the product, rather it can be recycled in the same way as standard paper-based packaging. It offers sustainable alternative to single-use plastics.

The unique design makes it capable to withstand exposure to water without being damaged. This makes it extremely suitable for e-commerce packaging and a superior packaging solution for products such as flowers, detergent and fruit and vegetables, which essentially require temporary protection against water. Also, it is suitable for use in humid conditions, especially for transporting and storing refrigerated products.

Lars Henriksson, Vice President of Product Development at the Smurfit Kappa Paper Division stated that AquaStop paper is a truly revolutionary paper and that the company expects it to become the preferred choice for transporting goods in more demanding environments. The new product will be showcased at Smurfit Kappa’s customer innovation event to be held shortly.
