SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The 2020 Sustainable Development Report (SDR) published by Smurfit Kappa states that the company made significant progress on achieving its sustainability targets in 2020.
According to the report, the company continued to deliver year-on-year reduction of carbon dioxide emissions by 7% during the previous year. Compared with 2019, it made notable progress in reducing its fossil carbon dioxide emission intensity. It reduced its emissions intensity by 37.3% in 2020. The company is on track to reach its 2030 target of 55% reduction and net zero emissions by 2050.

Further, the report states that the water discharge quality improved by 5% and waste-to-landfill intensity reduced by 18%. The Chain of Custody certified packaging deliveries were up by 2%, in comparison with 2019. The company’s safety performance recorded an improvement by 29%. During the financial year, Smurfit Kappa received a total of €7.7 million in donations for its various social projects.
