SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Smurfit Kappa announced that it has completed significant investment in its plants in Central and Eastern Europe. The investment, amounting to more than €20 million, were made in its manufacturing plants in Olomouc in the Czech Republic and Obaly Sturovo in Slovakia.

As part of the upgrades, Smurfit Kappa installed state-of-the-art equipment at both the plants, thereby expanding capacities to better serve the rising customer demand in the region. The newly installed converting equipment is expected to increase the capacity by over 100 million regular and offset printed boxes per year. The investments are expected to further strengthen Smurfit Kappa’s leadership position in the Czech Republic and Slovakia markets, said the company press release.
The official unveiling ceremony of the upgraded facilities was attended among others by Tony Smurfit, Group CEO of Smurfit Kappa and Saverio Mayer, CEO of Smurfit Kappa Europe.
Zdenek Suchitra, CEO of Smurfit Central & South-East Europe noted that the company is delighted to announce that both of its investments have finished on time and within original budget. The investments demonstrate the company’s commitment to its customers and operations in Central and Eastern Europe region, he added.
