SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Smurfit Kapp, the leading global provider of paper-based packaging solutions, announced an investment of USD 33 million in Brazil towards expansion of capacity at its Fortaleza plant. The investment is aimed at meeting the growing demand for innovative and sustainable packaging in the region.
The expansion comprises installation of a new corrugator, which will significantly extend the plant’s offering for a range of FMCG customers covering various sectors including fresh fruit, home appliances and pharmaceuticals. Also, several high-end printers will be installed to provide high-level precision and quality for e-Commerce packaging. In addition, the investment will also create a new innovation centre at the facility, which will significantly boost the plant’s innovation capabilities.

Manuel Alcalá, CEO of Smurfit Kappa Brazil commented that the announcement would help Smurfit Kappa customers to gain even more share in their markets. The combination of an innovation centre and state-of-the-art technology will provide greater opportunities to deliver innovative, inspiring and sustainable solutions. Alcala added.
