SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Dow India announced the launch of a new digital waste management platform. The Rethink+ platform aims to prevent postconsumer plastic scrap from ending up in landfills by offering a takeback program for scrap plastics.
Rethink+ connects people with various stakeholders including waste aggregators, waste processors and recyclers. Dow offers this solution in partnership with Recykal-a cloud-based waste management and recycling solutions provider and Keshav Sita Memorial Foundation Trust- a leading non-governmental organization in waste management sector.
The mobile application allows users to list their recyclables in order to either arrange for a collection or drop off items at designated centers. The plastic scrap collected through the program is subjected to various responsible recycling processes.

The plastic recycling initiative was piloted in the city of Pune earlier this year. The program had collected more than 800 metric tons of plastic scrap in five months. The huge success of the pilot program has prompted the company to expand it into other major cities across the country, said Bambang Candra, Asia Pacific commercial vice president of Dow Packaging and Specialty Plastics. The company is committed to encourage the public to recycle more through increased awareness and education on the harmful impacts of plastics when it ends up in waste stream.
