SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Leading aluminum solutions provider Novelis, Inc. announced that it has entered into a long-term green Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with Statkraft- the largest renewable energy producer in Europe. The agreement will feed approximately 16% of the company’s total electricity consumption at its German rolling and recycling plants.

According to company press release, the contract will cover up to 40% of the electricity used at Nachterstedt Recycling and Nachterstedt Rolling. The PPA will run for a period of ten years and will provide Novelis with around 58 GWh of renewable energy every year, with deliveries expected to start this month. The PPA will significantly reduce carbon emissions from the company’s electricity consumption.
The agreement is part of the company’s commitment to reduce its carbon footprint by 30% by 2026 and achieve carbon neutrality on or before 2050.
Emilio Braghi, President, Novelis Europe noted that the company is proud to collaborate with such a renowned and experienced supplier. Statkraft is the right partner to customize a green PPA that fully meets the needs of its local plants. The ability to power a significant part of its production with renewable electricity is an important step forward in its sustainability journey, he added.
