SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Novelis Inc., based in Atlanta, emphasized aluminum's contribution to a circular economy.
Suzanne Lindsay-Walker, Vice President, Sustainability at Novelis, wrote in a blog post that the idea of a circular economy has grown in importance in recent years. The circular economy is the theory that materials should be used to their fullest potential for as long as possible in order to minimize their negative effects on the environment and the need for virgin resources. In addition to generating income, a circular economy aims to combat pollution and climate change.

Novelis Report Outlines the Huge Economic Benefits of Aluminum Recycling
The blog noted that recycling is at the core of Novelis’ business model. The company has been successful in creating significant economic value by designing recyclable products and by making significant investments in advanced recycling infrastructure.
Aluminum has high recyclability, with nearly three-fourths of aluminum ever produced still in use today. The production of aluminum from recycled materials requires 95% less energy than primary aluminum production. Additionally, it results in only 5% of carbon emissions. Aluminum can be continuously repurposed across multiple product lifecycles. In addition, aluminum’s circular properties will help businesses to reduce emissions considerably.
