SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): LIBERTY Steel UK has reportedly announced a series of innovations and initiatives in line with its previously announced transformation strategy. These are aimed at ensuring the strong future of the business.
In August 2023, LIBERTY Speciality Steels, in collaboration with the University of Sheffield had commenced carbon capture trials at LIBERTY’s Brinsworth site. This ensures capturing of carbon dioxide emissions directly from the point of origin and securely storing them for later productive uses.

Another project by LIBERTY Steel UK aimed at reducing emissions was the trials of Ecoke- a sustainable raw material that could be used as a replacement for anthracite and having capability to reduce steel’s carbon footprint by almost 30%. Moreover, the significant emissions reduction is achieved without any downside to the production process, noted Scott Jackson, Plant Manager at ACP of LIBERTY Speciality Steel.
Liberty’s Advanced Machining Centre (AMC) in Stocksbridge acts as a hub of cutting-edge machines and innovations, enhancing customer offer. In addition, the LIBERTY Pipes Hartlepool successfully completed trials to become the first in UK to have capabilities to produce hydrogen pipelines.
