Although there were concerns that battery recycling levels could post a decline in 2020 due to Covid-19, the consumer recycling trends remained unaffected during the year, it noted. However, recyclable battery collections by Call2Recycle recorded approximately 10% decline from 2019.
The battery collection by Call2Recycle partners has increased substantially by 77% from 2019 to 3.2 million pounds. The retailers contributed over 2.3 million pounds, followed by battery manufacturers with 1.8 million pounds.
The Milwaukee-based The Responsible Battery Coalition (RBC) also celebrated its 2M Battery Challenge initiative during the National Battery Day. The initiative aims to recover and recycle 1% of lead-acid batteries that are not currently recovered.
