SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The Bogalusa, Louisiana-based International Paper (IP) paper mill has consented to pay a $500,000 fine. The corporation was cited, according to the federal regulators, for allegedly monitoring malfunctions and releasing high amounts of sulfur compounds.
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) reports that the business has consented to a number of operational and inspection modifications. It has also promised to guarantee improvements in recordkeeping in addition to giving staff the required training. Additionally, International Paper will improve the facility's incinerator furnace as needed.

The firm and EPA officials consulted for over four years before reaching the consent deal. In the meantime, the business denied any of the infractions listed in the settlement and the previous notices of violations.
Between 2017 and 2018, the paper mill reported several environmental infractions.
IP has invested about $490 million in improvements since acquiring the mill from Temple-Inland in 2012. Additionally, the business intends to enhance by replacing furnace-related equipment, which should increase the mill facility's operational efficiency.
