Hudbay Minerals Declares Full Production Restart at 777 Mine

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Hudbay Minerals announced that it has resumed full production at its 777 mine in Flin Flon, Manitoba. The company had halted production at the mine in mid-October this year, following a skip hoist incident.

According to the company press release, the shaft repair works were completed before the schedule and that too at a total direct cost of under estimated $5 million. The halt in operations are likely to impact production and sales volume in Q4. However, the Manitoba unit is expected to achieve the full year production and cost guidance for 2020. It must be noted that the equipment and personnel from the 777 mine were reassigned to the company’s Lalor mine in Snow Lake, during the period of repairs, which in turn helped to mitigate production loss partially.

Announcing the decision, Peter Kukielski, President and Chief Executive Officer, Hudbay Minerals noted that the shaft incident was an unfortunate event. However, the team responded quickly to successfully bring back the asset into full production, ahead of schedule. The temporary allocation of additional resources to Lalor mine helped in testing the mine’s production potential. The company is extremely positive about the future of its Snow Lake operations, he added.
