SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Atlanta, Georgia-headquartered Georgia-Pacific (GP) donated $25,000 to a STEM Program in Oregon. The donation from the North American lumber giant’s containerboard mill in Toledo went to Oregon Coast STEM Hub (OCSH) that promotes STEM and technical career education across the state.
Commenting on the decision, Loria Holden, health and safety leader at the Toledo mill noted that the support is in recognition of STEM’s efforts to encourage students to think critically, increase science literacy and empower the next generation of innovators. Further, it encourages students to pursue studies that eventually lead to a career in the wood products and paper industry, Holden said. Additionally, STEM meets the four strategic goals of education, environment, entrepreneurship and community enrichment for advancing the company’s mission in the communities where it operates.
Dr. Lisa Blank, OCSH executive director stated that it is delighted to have GP as one of its business partners to promote STEM and CTE skills among students. GP’s support will offer additional opportunities for OCSH to expand its reach, Blank added.
Dr. Lisa Blank received the check for $25,000 from Loria Holden in a ceremony held in GP’s Toledo mill.
