SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): EACOM Timber Corporation announced its decision to invest nearly $9 million at its Elk Lake sawmill. The investment comprises installation of a new state-of-the art continuous dry kiln (CDK) at the mill, which is expected to become fully operational by early fall this year.
This is the second such investment by the company, following the installation of continuous dry kiln at its Timmins sawmill in 2017. The new kiln will facilitate continuous drying of lumber. Furthermore, it is expected to reduce bottlenecks, in addition to saving energy. The new system will eliminate the use of both diesel fuel and propane, which are currently used for heating the buildings on-site and two kilns. Going forward, the system will make use of direct fired natural gas.

Commenting on the development, Kevin Edgson, President and CEO, EACOM noted that the investment in Elk Lake is a testament to the company’s commitment to technological innovation and its long-term vision for the region. The latest investment will make the mill an important community partner for many more years to come, added Edgson.
The Elk Lake sawmill has been a major economic driver for the town and surrounding areas, supporting nearly 140 direct jobs, in addition to hundreds of indirect jobs.
