SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): DS Smith announced a series of new safety measures to fight the spread of coronavirus pandemic. The company mills have adopted various measures, including strict disinfection procedures, so as to ensure protection of its employees from the virus.
As part of ensuring social distancing, the company’s Dueñas Mill in Iberia installed glass walls between the offices in the stock preparation control room and the reception. Also, the floors have been sealed with safety floor tapes. In addition, a shoe disinfector has been installed at the Alcolea Mill, company press release noted.

The company partnered with local authorities and communities in providing aid kits to residents over 65 years old in Krusevac, Serbia. DS Smith donated 37,000 boxes to package the aid kits, comprising of protective masks, essentials groceries, disinfectant and a weekly magazine. The boxes were produced and delivered within two days.
Meantime, DS Smith said that its operations have not been significantly disrupted by the pandemic. Jochen Behr, head of recycling stated that it continues to witness strong supplies from retail sector, mainly driven by heightened consumer demand during the crisis time. The company ruled out fears of cardboard shortage in the European region.
