SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Europe-based packaging major DS Smith has announced the launch of new range of emergency provision boxes. The boxes were designed and developed in less than a week, in consultation with food retailers across Europe.
According to the company, home delivery of food to people who are not able to go to shops on account of coronavirus restrictions, has become quite common across the world. These services are likely to gain further traction as more and more countries resort to social distancing and lockdown mechanisms to arrest rapid spread of the virus. The food retailers could fill the provision boxes with food and leave them at doorsteps, DS Smith press release noted.

Stefano Rossi, CEO of Packaging at DS Smith noted that the company was approached by several of its food supply customers for a new packaging solution to provide essential food to the society’s most vulnerable. It designed the product in less than a day. The company was able to deliver the final product in less than a week, after necessary prototyping and testing procedures. The newly developed special packaging solution is more hygienic and recyclable at home, Rossi added.
