DS Smith Got Scanstar Awards for Innovative Packaging Design

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): European packaging leader DS Smith plc. won two awards at the latest Scanstar packaging design award competition. The competition, organized by the Swedish association, had a total of 32 submissions from across the Nordic countries, from which the winners were selected by an eminent jury.

The company’s design teams in Denmark and Finland won the prestigious competition. This is the fourth consecutive year that the Finnish design team has won the award.

The first award-winning product was ‘Recycling container’ designed by the Finnish team. These empty containers are used by special filling machine for collecting empty cans and PET bottles. It fits well inside an EUR-pallet. It has sealed bottom flaps and manually locked top structure. Furthermore, it takes only around 30 seconds to make it ready for use, thus making it convenient for shops and supermarkets.

The Danish team’s User-Friendly Securing Racks for Door Handles also won the award. The jury cited the product to be a clever improvement when compared with the previous plastic bags. The team was commended for the ease of use, simple engineering and unique design of the product.

The Scanstar award distribution ceremony is scheduled to be held on October 28, 2021.

The above two packaging solutions will now be part of worldwide competition organized by the World Packaging Organization (WPO).
