DS Smith De Hoop Paper Mill Wins Top Safety Accolade

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): DS Smith De Hoop paper mill won prestigious Health and Safety Award from the Royal Netherlands Paper and Board Association (Royal VNP) in recognition of its high safety standards. Royal VNP is part of the Confederation of European Paper Industries (CEPI) which represents the forest fibre and paper industry across Europe.

The Occupational Health and Safety Cup were awarded to the company during the recently held Royal VNP’s annual Fibre Future Festival.

According to Royal VNP, DS Smith has shown impressive progress in the area of safe working. Moreover, it has been successful in creating support for an ever-higher level of safety in both the management team and in the workplace.

DS Smith, in a press release, noted that operating a sustainable and responsible business is possible only by providing a healthy and safe working environment. Safety of all people, irrespective of employees, contractors and customers, has been its top priority and cornerstone of its operations.

Robert Jespers, Health and Safety Manager at De Hoop mill credited all the hard work carried out over the past several years, which has helped the company become eligible to receive such a high-profile award. The work at De Hoop mill will help the company to continue its journey towards a sustainable, world class performance, Jespers added.

DS Smith has achieved huge transformation in health and safety standards at De Hoop mill over the past one year, through implementation of several initiatives and by providing safety training to nearly one third of its employees.
