SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): European packaging leader DS Smith partnered with Kent County Council (KCC)- the largest local authority in England, to help it achieve its key sustainability targets. DS Smith will offer local solutions to boost recycling, reduce waste and cut carbon emissions. It must be noted that KCC has awarded the contract to process KCC’s mixed paper to DS Smith.
As per available data, KCC had achieved 47.2% recycling rate in 2018/19. The Council aims to increase this rate to a minimum of 50% of household waste being recycled and composted by 2021/21. This would place KCC among the top 75 performing local authorities in England.
Sian Farrell, New Business & Contract Manager at DS Smith Recycling stated that the company is delighted to start a new recycling partnership with Kent County Council. The company will offer innovative solutions, closed-loop model and account management, which will help to reduce contamination, improve quality and push the region’s recycling rates, he added.
Meantime, David Beaver, Kent County Council noted that it looks forward to establish strong relationship with the Kemsley Paper Mill to improve Recycling in Kent.
