SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): European packaging leader DS Smith announced combined investment of £100 million in two new packaging facilities in Italy and Poland. The decision is in response to increased customer demand in both the above countries, said company press release.
The investments will support the company’s ambitious plans for further organic growth in the region. It must be noted that the company has registered significant growth over the past three years. The investment in the new packaging sites will boost its regional capacity. The increased adoption of e-commerce and expansion in traditional food and beverages market are likely to drive growth of paper-based packaging market.

The new planned facilities in Belchatov, Poland and Castelfranco Emilia, Italy will provide big boost to local economy. Both these facilities will feature state-of-the-art manufacturing technologies and are expected to come online within the next two to three years. Apart from these, the company also plans major acquisition of greenfield sites.
DS Smith announced that it is committed to offer innovative and sustainable packaging solutions, mainly for consumer goods. Though its main focus continues to be on recyclable, paper-based packaging, it is also interested to offer variety of solutions to replace single-use plastic.
