SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Irving, Texas-headquartered steelmaker Commercial Metals Company (CMC) announced that it has received an operating air permit from t the Maricopa County Air Quality Department for its third technologically advanced micro mill in Mesa, Arizona. The permit, obtained in last week of April this year, will enable the company to begin construction works.
Tracy Porter, Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, CMC noted that the air permit marks an important milestone in the construction of Arizona-2 micro mill. This allows the company to proceed with construction works so as to enable installation of the mill equipment, the orders for which were given last year. The commissioning of the micro mill is scheduled for spring of 2023, he added.

Meantime, Mesa Mayor John Giles pointed out that the City is proud to have a long-standing partnership with CMC in Mesa and look forward to their continued success as leaders in their industry.
Upon completion, the micro mill will be the first such facility in the whole world to produce both merchant bar and rebar. The latest steelmaking technology to be employed at the mill will ensure significantly lower emissions and highly efficient energy consumption.
